Troop 2008 is a Scout Troop located in Cedar Park, a suburb Northwest of Austin, TX. We are in the North Shore District of the Capitol Area Council. Our Charter Organization is Christ Episcopal Church.
We meet Mondays from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at Christ Episcopal Church (map). (in the Family Life Bldg)
Troop 2008 places a strong emphasis on Parent Involvement, Leader Training, and Mentoring.
We expect the parents of every boy to register both as a Scout Parent and as a Merit Badge Counselor for at least one Merit Badge.
Our Adult Leaders have completed further training. We view this training as an essential component in supporting the Scouting Program.
We believe mentoring is a key component in helping our Scouts develop leadership skills while improving their ability to interact with adults and one another.
Over the course of the last 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has built a successful program. It is our goal to do our best to implement the Scouting program as it is described in the official BSA literature:
The Guide to Safe Scouting (online version supersedes print version)
The Troop Committee Guidebook
The Scoutmaster’s Handbook
The Boy Scout Handbook
Advancement Committee Policies & Procedures
Boy Scout Requirements (updated annually and is the controlling resource for advancement)
and other official sources published by the BSA
Other resources exist – and many of them are very valuable and chock full of program ideas – but they need to be viewed in the context of the official sources published by the BSA.
Here are some additional thoughts around the importance we place on Leadership, Training and Mentoring.
